Brutalist Garden

Wimbledon

Constructed and planted November 2022 by All Things Green

A Grade II listed Brutalist house in concrete blockwork designed by Sir Philip Dowson in 1968. A wonderful house with large glass doors and windows opening onto a front garden which we have redesigned as a simple courtyard with a sunken pond with stepping stones, concrete tiles, gravel and a limited palette of evergreen grasses, black bamboo with culms exposed, and the architectural forms of Japanese Acer and pittosporum domes.

The rear garden retains the original terrace with the remainder designed in keeping with the minimalist style of the house and front garden using hedges to frame the outline of a silver birch underplanted with cornus, plants with strong outlines and evergreen grasses.

Additionally there is a large roof terrace which we have designed with grasses and euphorbia inspired by those used at The Barbican.
